"Squash that wasp!"
The Common Wasp
is spreading
throughout New
Zealand. It
particularly likes the
honeydew beech
forests of the South
Island, where it not
only hassles trampers and
climbers but
competes with kaka,
tui, bellbirds and
other birds for the
honeydew. It may be
killing nestling birds and
insects and there
is a risk that birdlife
will be driven out of
certain areas. Learn
to know the enemy
and report problems
and infestations to
the Department of Conservation.
